Ha replicato i consensi nel 2004 con Feels like home, che ha consoli dato la sua popolarità.Nel 2006 è entrata a far parte del progetto mus icale The Little Willies, in cui suo na pezzi d'annata americani con alcu ni suoi vecchi amici.Norah, figlia d i Ravi Shankar, il maestro di sitar del Beatle George Harrison, non è c resciuta con lui ma solo con sua mad re, Sue Jones, cantante di musica so ul, che le ha trasmesso l'amore per la musica. Il suo nome completo di b attesimo era Geethali ノラ・ジョーンズ Sh ankar: all'età di 16 anni lo ha leg almente cambiato in ノラ・ジョーンズ, a c onferma del difficile rapporto con i l padre. Fino a qualche anno fa, di lui riusciva solo a dire "è un gran de musicista". La sorella, figlia di Ravi e di un'altra donna, Anoushka Shankar, di due anni più piccola, � � anche lei una musicista: "ha un ta lento raro", dice di lei Jones.Con l a madre visse a New York fino al 198 3, anno in cui la piccola compiva qu attro anni. Da allora, la coppia si trasferì a Grapevine, Texas, dove v isse fino ai venti anni. Nella sua c asa non mancarono mai dischi dei cla ssici del blues e del jazz: Billie H oliday, Aretha Franklin, Ray Chiacch ieri e Bill Evans. All'influenza mus icale materna bisogna sommare quella che ricevette da sua nonna, un'appa ssionata del forte country degli Out laws, da Hank Williams a Willie Nels on.Jones incominciò a studiare cant o e si unì al coro della chiesa per cantare gospel, nel periodo in cui iniziava gli studi di piano e sassof ono. Era lontana dall' essere un'alu nna modello: era abbastanza vaga e l asciò lo studio varie volte.Il suo primo contatto col jazz l'ebbe a Dal las, entrando nella sua adolescenza nell'Istituto Broker T. Washirable. Nel 1996 e 1997 conquistò vari prem i di interpretazione e composizione per studenti. Terminando l'istituto entrò nell'Università di North Tex as, dove studiò piano e teoria nel programma di jazz. Lì si specializz ò in tastiera di jazz e formò il s uo primo gruppo.Con venti anni compi uti, Jones girò a New York per alcu ne brevi ferie e non volle ritornare nel Texas, con grande dispiacere di sua madre. Una volta nella "Grande Mela", si buttò immediatamente nel fertile circuito di concerti al Gree nwich Village e collaborò con diver se band. Per due anni si guadagnò d a vivere cantando in saloni di jazz, pranzi e happy hours, molte volte a nche con meno di quindici persone e riscuotendo solo delle mance che dav ano i parrocchiani.Tuttavia, in quel l'epoca intuì che voleva vivere con la musica e che poteva farlo grazie al suo innato talento. Abbandonò l 'università, incominciò a scrivere le sue prime canzoni, fece parte pe r un po' di un gruppo funk fusion, W ax Poetic, e finalmente fondò il su o proprio gruppo col bassista Lee Al exander, il chitarrista e compositor e di Don't Know Why, Jesse Harris, e d il batterista Danno Rieser. Per qu ell'epoca si stabilizzò come cantan te nel club notturno The Living Room .In uno di quei concerti l'ascoltò Shell White, membro della discografi co EMI, in una notte di febbraio del l'anno 2000. Gli piacque quello che sentiva e le chiese un demo con le s ue canzoni. Il nastro arrivò a Bruc e Lundvall, direttore di Blue Note, il celebre simbolo di jazz. La voce di Norah non poteva passare innosser vata: una voce giovane e suadente, p iena di calda sensualità. Lundvall la contattò dopo aver ascoltato app ena tre canzoni di quelle cassette e d incaricò al produttore Craig Stre et che lavorasse il materiale di Nor ah e la circondasse con strumentisti di lusso.Il risultato, molto più p op della versione finale, non convin se nessuno e Lundvall incaricò alla sua produttrice, Arif Mardin, una n uova versione che si concentrasse ne lla voce. Il lavoro fu pronto e il s uo debutto discografico uscì in ven dita nel febbraio del 2002 con il ti tolo Come away with me ma senza camp agne massicce, né un hit aggressivo suonando in tutte le radio. Tuttavi a, il passaparola fece il suo lavoro ed il disco si incominciò a vender e sempre di più. Per l'autunno avev a sorpassato già il milione di copi e. Si trasformò anche in platino in Olanda, Australia, Portogallo e Hon g Kong; doppio platino a Gran Bretag na, Irlanda e Singapore; e quintuplo platino in Nuova Zelanda. Il totale di vendite attorno al mondo sorpass a i 18 milioni di copie.
